Center for Architecture and Design

University Tennessee,

Downtown Knoxville, USA

2011 - 2012

For years 500 South Gay Street is the prime address for the Downtown Studio, hence a center city venue for design education and events of the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design. The design for a new Center for Architecture and Design elevates the stronghold in the public view, also integrating the American Institute of Architects East Tennessee Chapter, and the East Tennessee Community Design Center. A minimal composition of basic elements for design studio, seminar, exhibition, conference, and lecture is materialized in crystalline back-lit glass blocks, showcasing its juxtaposition with the gutted raw hull of this historic preserved building.
